I'm so sick of this ridiculous cry fest I'm hearing from the Democrats. Suck it up! MoveOn!
You could always move to Canada or Europe where they indulge your type of self pity. We warned you you would lose but you didn't believe us. We told you you were out of touch with America but your elitist condescending attitudes blames ordinary Americans instead of yourselves. Just keep looking at that map and the sea of red you're drowning in. If you think you have it bad now, just wait! We're going to cut more taxes, kick more terrorist ass , and pack the Court so much that it will take generations for you to try to undue our conservative agenda. Enjoy your insignificance as the perpetual minority. Bend over Liberals because here it comes baby!

What some people don't realized is that the South is increasing under the control of Republican Party. Twenty years ago, the south votes republicans for presideny, but vote for democratic senator, house of resprensentative, governors and majors... Now, the south is red in both fedral and state level. More importantly, the south is the fastest growing part of the country. Just look at the electoral college shifted from 2000 to 2004 election. The south will consistute more electoral vote in 2012 election (census are done every ten years 2008 won't be affected). The Democrats are stil holding northeast and pacific wast state, but the norhteast are shrinking.

Hmmm...nope, not gonna happen. But I'm sure it's a nice dream for you to have. I'm fairly sure there were people simular to you on the left who thought something much the same after Clinton won his second term. But no. The Democrats will restructure, rebuild, and come back to retake power, hold it for a while, then it'll go back to the Republicans after they restructure and rebuild. It's kind of a cycle thing.

I seem to be missing something here. What's "not going to happen"?

The whole "insignificance as the perpetual minority" thing.

First of all, what happened during Clinton cannot be compared to today. I am being very rationale. For one, during the Clinton era, the democrat power in the Congress grew weaker. Democrats lost seats. In addition, Clinton was not able to stop the transformation of the south toward Republicans (state level). The south was increasing voting for Republican for the last 40 years on state level. The presidency is something of come and go. The trasnformation at the state level is much slower at the same time, much more difficult to be reversed.
Is it possible for the Democratic Party to be reconstructed and come back. Yes, and as a Repubican, would actually like to see that. I believe the Democrat can come back to take the presidency away, but they are losing the south at the grassroot level now.

Looks like you're too busy gloating to move on. You could have easily simply posted this in any thread where you saw such whining occuring, but, instead, weeks after the election you want to open up a new thread on the subject. Such class, but hardly surpising.

Gloating? You bet I am! After all the venom and bitterness that was thrown at me when I was out campaigning for Bush I'm going to gloat until 2008. I had one woman tell me ,without provocation, that she hopes Bush drafts me and that I come home in a body bag. And thats just one of many such incidents. But nevermind what was said to me, what was said about the President and our country was worse. He was likened to Hitler, called a butcher, and a war criminal. Now that you've lost it's no surprise you want everyone to hurry up and forget what was said so that you won't be held accountable for your actions. Actions which during war time have bordered on, if not been, treason. Your aid and comfort to the enemy has inspired many an Iraqi to kill a US soldier so it can played on the news and then hyped up by you 'sunshine' patriots. No I'm very sorry my Liberal Democrat friends but I will not forget your 'dis'-loyal opposition. We won. America has chosen the Republican Party and it's conservative principles. I won't be letting you forget it anytime soon.

Perhaps you need to read some Ann Coulter to know true hate. You're just passing along some old crap, that Democrats are not patriotic, in fact are terrorist sympathisers, going to hell for their views, that Dems don't know anything about foreign policy and should leave the country if they don't like it. Smacks of Nixonism at its worst. You've driven your stake in that divides America and you want to now make the chasm even larger. Go on and believe everything that Karl Rove tells you.

It sounds like this lady feels that if you were so strongly for the war in Iraq that perhaps you should "put your money where your mouth is" so to speak. You may feel justified in your gloating but most often it isn't seen as a positive personality trait. Also keep in mind that their was a lot of venom on both sides this year. I also campaigned for Kerry door-to-door and have some similar stories, but, you know, that's in the past.

And yet it is still a cycle. The opposite is happening here in south-eastern Minnesota, just in the other direction and on a much smaller scale. A very conservative and rural area is trending back towards the Democrats, electing new representatives at the state level (and we were sooooo close in my district to ousting a 10-year Republican incumbent). Several counties went for Kerry that hadn’t gone Democrat in a long time. So yes, the South is going Republican. And maybe it’s permanent. But maybe not.

I honostly cannot fathom how some people can be so crazed. How is punishing the people not in power democratic (that's with a small "d")? How can you honostly call yourself a proponent of democracy?

Either way, even if the Republican Party destoryed the Democratic Party. The Republican Party will splitted into two. That has happened throughout the 200 years of our history. Federalist Party and Whig Party is no longer here, right? And the original Democratic-Repubicans Party is neither like the two parties we have today. More of a combination of both.
